Too Good for Drugs and Violence
October 1, 2006, Partnership was awarded , for
the second consecutive year, the
Governor's Grant to fund Too Good for Drugs and Violence (TGDV),
a nationally recognized science-based, award-winning
program for youth ages 10-13 in grades 6-8.
The 20-session TGDV program provides training
for drug refusal, conflict resolution, goal setting and
accomplishment, as well as additional educational and life skill
information. Consisting of activities created by the Mendez Foundation,
the format is interactive and allows the youth peer-to-peer sharing
that often provides more positive outcomes than adult influence.

Liliana and Debra
compare how they are alike.
Feelings and stories shared by some of the teens
have allowed them to alert their peers of the negative impact of
alcohol and drug abuse. Through this openness the students gain a
feeling of self-respect and affirmation in the respective space in
the world.
The effectiveness of this program in reducing
student intentions to use alcohol, tobacco and marijuana has been
proven and documented in a scientific study published in the Florida
Education Research Council Bulletin.

Chapman middle-school students gather around program
leader, Debra Milliken.
