Past, Present and Future
Partnership for a Drug-Free Community is proud to be the coordinating agency for drug and alcohol prevention programs in Huntsville/Madison County. Our award-winning programs and innovative education services are designed for young people, parents and businesses.
Governed by an esteemed Board of Directors, funded through grants and contributions and supported by national organizations including the Office of National Drug Control Policy, Partnership for a Drug-Free Community is constantly working to prevent substance abuse in our community -
In 1988 the Junior League of Huntsville identified
a need for the coordination of alcohol and drug prevention efforts
in this community. To address this need, the Junior League made
a $100,000 contribution to last for a three-year period. This contribution
enabled Partnership for a Drug-Free Community to establish its programs
and services.
Partnership for a Drug-Free Community, a private,
non-profit organization, does not provide treatment services but
is solely focused on prevention and education. Our professional staff
teaches programs designed to raise awareness about the dangers of
drugs and alcohol and educates children and teens how to refuse alcohol,
drugs and tobacco.
We recognize that to affect change in the local
drug culture, collaboration across organizational borders and political
sides is vital. Partnership for a Drug-Free Community develops coalitions
that address specific drug and alcohol concerns facing our community
and unify the substance abuse prevention efforts throughout our
community. Coalitions can include:
- law enforcement
- medical professionals
- social service professionals
- concerned citizens
- school officials and educators
- faith leaders
Guided by a well established Board
of Directors representing varied professional fields including
law, education, medicine, and law enforcement, Partnership for a
Drug-Free Community is constantly working through programming and
collaboration to prevent alcohol and drug abuse.
Partnership's programs have been
recognized and funded by various organizations including:
In addition to grants, Partnership relies
on contributions to fund its programs
and services.
With continued community support, dedicated
